Fibertec maintains phase contrast microscopy (PCM), polarized light microscopy (PLM) and indoor air quality laboratories. The PCM laboratory participates in the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health/American Industrial Hygiene Association Proficiency Analytical Testing (NIOSH/AIHA PAT) Program and maintains a proficient rating in that program. Fibertec is capable of analyzing air samples for the presence of airborne fibers (asbestos, fiberglass).

The PLM laboratory is accredited by NVLAP (#101510-0) to conduct bulk sample analysis of building materials for the presence of asbestos. Point count analysis and gravimetric reduction sample preparation and analysis are also routinely performed. Click here to view our accreditation certificate, NVLAP Lab Code: 101510-0.

Our accredited staff can also provide asbestos building inspection and re-inspection services, management plan development, specification development, and operations and maintenance (O&M) program development, along with onsite air monitoring and project management services.

Our Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) laboratory is equipped with NUAIRE high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter equipped fume hoods, and Olympus PLM microscopes.

Our Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) Laboratory is equipped with three Olympus CH-2 phase contrast microscopes and specialized equipment for sample preparation. We analyze samples for the presence of airborne fibers pursuant to the strict requirements of the NIOSH 7400 Method. The Fibertec IHS PCM Laboratory is a proficient participant in the NIOSH/ AIHA PAT Program.
